However, the Underworld expansion pack made it possible to change the starting skills to any two of the skills that are avaliable to the character at level 3 for new characters.
This is done by changing a line in the Configuration File Settings. There are six attributes shared by all characters. Each character class has a different set of initial values for these.
One additional point, to be placed wherever a player chooses, is available for each level as well. Each attribute affects many variables regarding a characters abilities - some regarding health and physical well being while others affect attacking ability and yet others affect defensive values.

To open your characters Log Book push the L key or click the Log Book icon found near the bottom center of the screen that has a book shape. For me its a tough choice between my magic wood elf and my dark elf fire trapper. Oh Go for the Dark Elf! He is so much fun!
Well I'd have to go with Gial on this one. The wood elf is my favorite character. I feel she's very versatile and can handle just about anything you throw at her.
My favorite build for her is a hybrid ranged and magic, but I'd say the best is straight up magic. That doesn't mean ranged or hybrid are bad choices, they just aren't quite as strong. They are fun. Too many ties. Anyway, I 'm gonna pick what gets to 5 first. Edit: What's a "toon"? BM for life. I agree with griffman and gial on the WE choice. Soooo fun to play. Yay, WE and BM share first place!
Best control of mobs nothing can come close to it, many ways to kill things and how can the undead come close to him whne he has GOW and Circle of Fear. You should try to find the char that suits your playing style the best. Every possible char type holds the key to be "the best char for you ". OKi end of bla bla You need very very high damage? Again your choice shoud be the Dark Elf. Able to switch from the deadliest "direct attack" char to the most powerful "indirect" damage Dealer?
In short: every char excells in at least one field. Some of them are really good in more than on fields. Dark ELf knows and does everything. BUT and this is important: every char IS fun to play and every char could be incredibly strong. De just does things better and easyer than the others. No seraphim? Where's gogo? Wait a minute, did you turn evil and picked daemon instead?
Anyway, the deciding ceremony is : Yes, the end of next week. She's quite versatile as well, and is the soonest character besides the Dwarf that gets the Trade skill. There are many possibilities with her, but the most fun I've had is with my rune-intensive Blizzard set build. I'm attempting to get the 'best of both worlds' with her bow damage as well as spell damage, but it's hard to do well in both categories at the same time. Add the attractiveness of the nice cool Ice Damage and the snow she brings to the party, and all she needs is the Xmas stuff to top it off with.
